Active April – Day 14: Relax your body & mind with yoga, tai chi or meditation
This year I will try to relax my body and mind through Meditation, it is a very beneficial practice to reduce stress, improve focus and promote general well-being.
How to do Meditation at home?
1. Find a quiet place: The first challenge is to choose a calm and comfortable place where you can sit or lie down without being disturbed.
2. Posture: Sit or lie comfortably, keeping your spine erect, but not tense.
3. Breathe deeply: Begin meditation by breathing deeply through your nose, filling your lungs with air and then slowly exhaling through your mouth. Focus on each breath, feeling the air entering and leaving your body.
4. Mindfulness: Bringing attention to the present moment, leaving aside thoughts about the past or future. Focus on physical sensations, such as your breathing or your heartbeat, to anchor your mind in the present.
5. Examine the body: Examine your body, starting at the feet and going up to the head, paying attention to any tension or discomfort. As you breathe deeply, you allow these areas to relax and let go.
6. Visualization: Imagine a peaceful and serene place, like a beach or a forest. Visualize the details of this place, using all your senses to make the experience more vivid and relaxing.
7. Acceptance: You are open to the present experience, accepting any thought or emotion that arises, without judgment. Let them pass like clouds in the sky, without getting attached to them.
8. Time: Start with short meditation sessions, 5 to 10 minutes, and gradually increase the time as you feel more comfortable.
9. Habit: Making meditation a habit in your daily routine will bring greater benefits. Even if it’s just for a few minutes a day, consistency is key.
Don’t forget that meditation is a skill that develops over time, so be patient with yourself and don’t worry if your mind wanders.
